In her new solo show, "Embodied," Meinhold shares a captivating collection of contemporary encaustic and cold wax paintings that explore the intricate relationship between body, identity, and landscape in the American West. Through layered surfaces, her work invites viewers to reflect on how the expansive terrains—ranging from misty, sage-covered hills to fog-draped mountain peaks and atmospheric forests—shape our personal and collective narratives.
The theme "Embodied" highlights the physical and emotional connections we have with our environment. Using encaustic and cold wax, both made with beeswax, Meinhold creates depth through various techniques, exploring the landscapes she cherishes. The tactile nature of these mediums allows for a visceral response, encouraging viewers to imagine themselves physically within the landscape. By immersing yourself in this atmospheric world, you can be present in the moment and connect with the here and now.
The artist writes, “As you engage with my artwork, I hope you’ll contemplate your own ties to the land and how it influences your identity and sense of belonging. This new body of work celebrates the profound interplay between nature and self, offering a poignant reflection on the intricate ways we connect with our surroundings and fostering a deeper understanding of place and identity.”

Artist statement: The work in this show pays tribute to the subjects and artists who inspire me, from Rembrandt to Van Gogh and Klimt. Each painting is built through a laborious accumulation of marks, textures, defacement, corrections, missteps, and discoveries.
Textural, earthy patina is contrasted against flashes of decorative and linear forms to create a poetic relationship between the subjects and their natural surroundings. The subjects in my work are simultaneously emerging from and being dissolved into an ever changing environment.
“An epiphany enables you to sense creation not as something completed, but as constantly becoming, evolving, ascending.
This transports you from a place where there is nothing new to a place where there is nothing old, where everything renews itself, where heaven and earth rejoice as at the moment of creation.”
-- Abraham Isaac Kook
For her latest collection of work at Gallery MAR, contemporary landscape painter, Sarah Winkler, is exploring the relationship between high altitude forests and the mountain geology that surrounds their habitat and sustains their existence. Chromatically rich Aspen forests and dense green conifer forests undulate over her large scale paintings. Winkler depicts the landscape both above and below an imaginary horizon line. Her reflective works emphasize the processes of nature and inter-connectivity of life sustaining resources in mountainous environments. Her layered, hard edge paintings filled with luminous abstract painted textures, condense and connect features of her mountainous landscapes.

Up through July 31. Cherished are the sweet, fleeting moments of our memory, whether it be the endearing tilt of a dog's head or the afternoon sun's glisten off of a familiar road. Cristall Harper and Aaron Memmott aim to immortalize the ephemeral, capturing the joys of a moment and the heartfelt pang of nostalgia with every mastered stroke of the brush.
With resplendently textured layers, Pamela Murphy and Sarah Winkler give the surface of their work its own individualized history, all the while giving elegant insight into a time in our collective past. Their paintings carry with them a feeling of quiet significance, as if each work holds within its layers a treasured account of the history of the world.
