July 28th, 2024

This month, we’re excited to continue our summer series “Artist Drops.” In this July’s curated selection of fresh artwork, we’re featuring the latest artwork from Gallery MAR artists Matt Flint, Havoc Hendricks, and Aaron Memmott

In honor of our second summer “Artist Drop,” we asked these three beloved Gallery MAR artists about their latest work, inspiration, and what they love the most about their fellow “Artist Drop” artists’ work. We hope you enjoy learning more about these works below, and be sure to see them in person in the gallery today.

MATT FLINT

Matt Flint’s artwork captures the spirit of nature through textured layers and muted tones. His style combines realism and abstraction, often featuring wildlife and natural landscapes. Each piece evokes a sense of depth and movement, reflecting the transient beauty of the natural world.

Gallery MAR: What can our collectors expect from your latest work?

Matt Flint: My most recent paintings are focused on the balance between and contrasts of abstraction and realism, control and spontaneity, mark making and color shapes, and contemporary and classical painting approaches.

Gallery MAR: What have you been most inspired by of late?

Matt Flint: I spent some time in the Netherlands and saw/absorbed so much incredible art and architecture. I was inspired by the Romanticist, Tonalist, Impressionist, and Abstract Expressionist paintings I saw in the multiple museums I visited.

Another source of inspiration is the regular mountain bike rides, hikes, and dog walks in the rugged beauty of the Wind River mountains near my home.

Gallery MAR: What in particular do you feel stands out about this new work?

Matt Flint: My painting palette reflects the colors of my current inspirations. I feel there is a depth and clarity of the colors in my current works that travel and warm summer weather have inspired. The overall feel of these works is contemplative and poetic.

Gallery MAR: What do you love about your fellow July Artist Drop artists’ work?

Matt Flint: I admire Havoc Hendricks’s inventive use of materials and refined forms. Aaron Memmot’s paintings demonstrate a command of the medium and a clarity of vision.

Gallery MAR: Is there anything else you would like for our collectors to know about this fresh work?

Matt Flint: I have realized that my work, like myself, is affected by the seasons. The work I do in the summer has a sense of freedom, a container for possibilities.

HAVOC HENDRICKS

Havoc Hendrick’s artwork is known for its vibrant colors and whimsical, surreal mountain imagery. His style combines elements of pop art and street art, creating dynamic pieces that are both playful and thought-provoking. Each work invites viewers into a world of imagination and creativity.

Gallery MAR: What can our collectors expect from your latest work?

Havoc Hendricks: On the surface, expect to see a representation of my latest, successful experimentation with color & refinement. Truthfully, though, I’m really experimenting with emotions & how these particular colors can cause people to feel a certain way.

Gallery MAR: What have you been most inspired by of late?

Havoc Hendricks: The more tumultuous & unsettling our societal problems seem to be, the more inspired I am to create artwork that conveys the opposite of those anxious emotions.  When people take the time to absorb my imagery they are often led to feel grounded, peaceful, happy, & calm. These feelings can be priceless.

Gallery MAR: What in particular do you feel stands out about this new work?

Havoc Hendricks: I have always found it interesting how some colors are culturally assigned to genders (like pink & blue). I believe that all colors are genderless & serve to convey emotions to everyone when manipulated correctly. My newest work explores color combinations that I believe convey feelings of soft & simple comfort. I think they serve to help quiet & slow down the otherwise anxious & racing mind.

Gallery MAR: What do you love about your fellow July Artist Drop artists’ work?

Havoc Hendricks: I LOVE their work. Matt Flint does a phenomenal job of casting an attractive mood over his painted subjects that maintains the raw power of untamed nature while making you feel a love for them like you sometimes can’t help feeling when looking into an animal’s eyes. And Aaron Memmott is, of course, so incredibly good at painting in that perfect realm of realism with a touch of abstract. His balance feels so technically advanced while still maintaining that interesting human touch.

Gallery MAR: Is there anything else you would like for our collectors to know about this fresh work?

Havoc Hendricks: One of my guiding principles is to create work that is truly timeless & transcends limiting trends. This is one of the reasons why I strive to capture emotional states of being into my work because a human emotion will always be a viable experience.

AARON MEMMOTT

Aaron Memmott’s artwork captures urban landscapes with a unique blend of realism and abstraction. His style is characterized by meticulous detail, muted color palettes, and dynamic compositions, creating scenes that evoke both the charm and complexity of city life, offering a fresh perspective on familiar environments.

Gallery MAR: What can our collectors expect from your latest work?

Aaron Memmott: I continue to try and capture the wonderful spirit of Park City in my new work.

My latest work is kind of a sequel to the paintings from my last show. I still had some more imagery that I wanted to explore. I guess I had some unfinished business. This new group has a variety of sizes, subjects, and seasons for collectors to choose from and there are some fresh ideas sprinkled in as well.

Gallery MAR: What have you been most inspired by of late?

Aaron Memmott: I continue to be inspired by the changing seasons, especially in Park City. I am intrigued by the constantly changing light of morning, afternoon, and night and the changing seasons. I explored this cyclical evolution further in my new paintings. Each piece has a different energy, spirit, and tone. I love the juxtaposition of the bustling energy on Main Street and the quiet calm of the surrounding landscape and wilderness of Park City and tried to capture that in my new work.

Gallery MAR: What in particular do you feel stands out about this new work?

Aaron Memmott: The old phone booth piece, “Waiting”, and the Crescent Lift piece, “Crescent” are a couple of new ideas that I had fun with. I hope the viewer gets a sense of nostalgia from this retro imagery, like I do.

Gallery MAR: What do you love about your fellow July art drop artists’ work?

Aaron Memmott: I admire all of their work. It’s definitely a nice mix in this group and I am grateful to be part of it.

What strikes me about Havoc Hendricks’ works are the color and design concepts. They are very well planned out and executed. His craftsmanship and technique are on point.

Matt Flint is definitely a pro. I’ve always loved the dripping and splattering in his work. There is a soft but gritty quality that comes through in his wildlife portraits. His paintings definitely create a mood.

I love when there is evidence of the process in paintings and all of the work in this group has that quality.

Gallery MAR: Is there anything else you would like for our collectors to know about this fresh work?

Aaron Memmott: I hope the viewer finds some of those same qualities I admire about my fellow artists in my new paintings.
